Prof. Yu is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, professor and president of Donghua University, deputy director of the National Expert Advisory Committee for the Development of New Materials Industry, and vice president of the Chinese Society for Composite Materials. He has long been committed to scientific research and teaching in the field of textile materials. He has carried out basic theory, key technology, and application development research in the areas of development of natural fiber resources, creation and application of chemical fiber, textile composite materials, and textile functional materials, and achieved a series of innovative results. He has won 2 second prizes for national technological inventions and 2 second prizes for national scientific and technological progress; published more than 400 academic papers; co-authored five books; and authorized more than 100 national invention patents.
