Dr. Huang got an MS degree in Solid Mechanics from HUST in 1983 and a PhD in Materials Engineering from NUS in 1999. He was the recipient of the Chang-Jiang Scholar Professorship at Tongji University by the Ministry of Education of China in 2003. He is known for his five theories in Mechanics of Composites, i.e. Bridging Model, the matrix true stress theory, the interlaminar matrix stress modification method, the incremental constitutive law in hyperelasticity and the physics based failure criteria, which have been applied world widely. His publications include 216 journal papers, 4 books, 9 book Chapters and 18 patents. One of his publications has gained an SCI citation of more than 5500.
